PHC’s products are underwritten by Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) plc and are reinsured by Munich Re. Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) plc is a wholly owned subsidiary of Munich Re.  PHC hold a binding authority from our underwriters, which empowers us to accept PMI business on their behalf.

Munich Re is one of the world’s largest reinsurance companies and was founded over 100 years ago. The Munich Re group is characterised by particularly pronounced diversificiation, client focus and earnings stability.  It has approx. 37,000 employees in over 50 locations throughout the world and operates in all lines of insurance.  In the financial year 2006, it achieved a profit of €3,536m, the highest in its 126 year corporate history.  In 2006 Munich Re’s premium income amounted to approx. €37bn and its investments to around €177bn .  Today over 5,000 insurance companies in 160 countries rely on Munich Re’s expertise and financial strength, and in 2006 35% of the gross premium written was from the life and health business.

Both Great Lakes and Munich Re have had for many years, and continue to have, good financial ratings from the major independent rating agencies including Standard & Poors and Moodys.

For your further peace of mind, all PHC policyholders have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) who will independently review any policyholder complaints and Great Lakes is also covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
